Fine Dining by the Water: The Halyard Restaurant

As I continued my journey through Long Island's North Fork, The Halyard Restaurant in Southold was a place highly recommended by my neighbors. Known for its stunning views of the Long Island Sound and exceptional dining experience, I decided to make reservations for brunch as their online menu interested me.

Upon arriving at The Halyard, I was immediately struck by its elegant ambiance. The restaurant has floor-to-ceiling glass windows that offer panoramic views of the Long Island Sound. The interior is designed with a modern coastal aesthetic, creating an atmosphere that complements its waterfront location. The space was full of natural light from the windows and sunroof and even had a bar and fireplace area with seats to lounge in. Additionally, there was an outdoor seating area but we chose to stay inside due to the heat wave Southold has been receiving.

Brunch at The Halyard had a slightly limited menu compared to their dinner offerings, but each item sounded delicious. I went with my family and we decided on two appetizers; smoked salmon avocado toast and chilled oysters. While I skipped the oysters as I am not a fan of them in general, my family said they were delicious and fresh. They were laid on a bed of crushed ice accompanied by cocktail sauce.

On the other hand, the smoked salmon avocado toast was a dish that I did try, and it turned out to be the best avocado toast I've had in my life, and I'm not exaggerating! The bread was a thinly sliced piece of pumpernickel toasted to perfection. On top was a layer of creamy avocado. The avocado was seasoned with salt, pepper, and fennel. There were also pickled shallots which added a nice touch of acidity. Lastly, it was topped with chili-crisped smoked salmon. This fish was very fresh and in one bite I was blown away by the flavor combination.

For my main course, I got the brunch burger. Served with a perfectly fried egg, avocado, lettuce, onions, and cheese, the burger was substantial. The combination of flavors and textures is what made it so delicious and despite its generous size, I found myself savoring every bite, knowing I would   have leftovers to enjoy later.

Although it was brunch, we decided to take a look at their dessert menu. They had an array of fresh fruit sorbet and cakes, but my family and I decided on the cinnamon bun. It was freshly baked and glazed with cream cheese frosting. A perfect ending to our brunch feast  - it was decadent without being overly sweet.

Throughout our dining experience, the service at The Halyard was amazing. The staff checked on us regularly, ensured our glasses were always filled with ice water, and even cleaned the table for us after each course.

The Halyard is definitely on the pricier side, but the experience is well worth the cost. The combination of exquisite food and astounding views of the Long Island Sound creates a memorable dining experience. I can't help but imagine the dinner experience here as their food is delicious and you get a view of the sunset. If you are looking for a high-end restaurant to go to I would say look no further than The Halyard in Southold, Long Island!
