From Bluffs to Bottles: Kontokosta Winery in Greenport

As I have been exploring the North Fork of Long Island, Greenport has been a town that I have visited often. During my time in Greenport, I have noticed the numerous wineries that fill the roads. Among all the places I have visited, there are still so many I would like to explore. Greenport is known for its beautiful vineyards and outstanding wineries and Kontokosta Winery is known to be one of the most popular winery destinations in Greenport. While not being of age, I still decided to check it out with my family and see what the hype was all about.

As mentioned, Greenport is a known spot for wine lovers, with its vineyards and boutique wineries that have earned the area a reputation as a top wine destination. The town’s unique combination of scenic beauty and wine production draws visitors from far away, making it a main location while exploring Long Island.

Situated on the bluffs overlooking the Long Island Sound, Kontokosta Winery offers some of the most breathtaking views. The winery’s modern yet rustic tasting room is designed to complement its scenic setting, featuring large windows that show the views of the water and vineyard. The panoramic views not only enhance the visual appeal of the winery but also create a calming atmosphere that invites visitors to relax and enjoy their surroundings.

Although I am underage and couldn’t participate in the wine tasting, it was clear from the atmosphere and my family’s enthusiastic feedback that Kontokosta has an excellent selection of wines. There were many diverse wines that really impressed not only my family but the other visitors around us. The winery also had a knowledgeable staff who provided an informative and enjoyable tasting experience for my family.

The winery’s layout had spacious indoor and outdoor areas. Inside, there were two levels - downstairs for everyday visitors and an upstairs for VIP members only. The upstairs section had comfortable seating and lounge chairs while downstairs had many round tables you could sample wine at. Outside, there were lounge chairs, picnic tables, and regular seating with umbrellas. My family and I took advantage of the outdoor seating and sat on the lawn and enjoyed a relaxing evening admiring the stunning scenery. As mentioned, the peaceful setting made it a perfect spot for relaxing and appreciating the beauty of Greenport. Additionally, the winery hosts various events, private bookings, and live music, which adds a lively and social element to the wine-tasting experience.

Overall, Kontokosta Winery offers both stunning views and high-quality wines. It is evident why it is one of the most popular wineries in the area given the diverse wine selection and overall atmosphere. Despite not being able to taste the wine, I had an enjoyable experience there with my family. Therefore, for anyone exploring Greenport and looking for something to do, add  Kontokosta Winery to your list. Its blend of beautiful scenery, exceptional wines, and a family-friendly environment makes it a great choice among the other wineries in the area.
